Village Days are for people of all ages that like to spend outdoor time together and do things that give meaning and that reconnect with the earth. Bring a lunch, something to work on, like a natural craft, or let yourself be inspired by others. Build fire, play with kids, practice some tangible ancestral skills, or take some time alone for a sit spot at Sassafras. Screen Shot 2014-10-23 at 2.04.56 PMFor a decade now, Saskia Vanderhoop hosts a monthly Women Fire Circle (mostly, on the 2nd Monday of the month),  providing a safe space of support and sisterhood with nature connection at the center. The first circle in September is open and free to all interested that identify as women. Consecutive circles are for a closed group of women. We move consciously thru the natural cycle, and each month, topics and questions are send out prior to gathering, to ensure the deepening of this journey. We meet either outside around an intentionally tended fire (as weather permits), or we meet inside our cozy yurt by candle-light. Sharing is confidential and all are encourage to hold space together and to open to personal growth and transformation. Connection with our natural surroundings, ourselves, others and the great mystery, is at the basis of our Nature Connection approach. If you are interested in joining, please come to our open circle on Monday  September 11, to try it on. Note that for the series, participant space is limited to 12 women, and you can enroll by going to our registration page. After filling in the reg form, please notify us via email, and you will receive an online invoice that will complete your registration. Women that are looking to step into a support role, are encouraged to communicate prior to the October date.

ANCESTOR SUPPER – A Pot Luck celebration open to all!

Saturday Dec 2 from 5 – 7pm

All are welcome to join our yearly Ancestor Supper at the Vanderhoop’s house. Please bring a dish to share, that represents your ancestry and a short story about it to share with others. Youth attending the Saturday program on Dec 2nd, will help with preparations and cook something over the fire that day.

OPEN FIRE CIRCLES for Mixed Gender

June 28, 2017: Social & Environmental Justice and being allies. The recent visit of Standing Rock documentary makers to our island and our home, has brought up a lot of questions around how to even begin conversation in a respectful way on such a complex and grief-loaded topic. David Vanderhoop expresses how we can begin that conversation at the intersection of social and environmental issues, from his native perspective. Questions we recently heard are “what can I do?”, “how can I support native people?” and “how do I address these topics in a respectful way?” After David’s inspirational storytelling, we invite your sharing. Read on below.

A new and open fire circle for adults of all gender orientations. Fire Circles provide an important place for healing, by sharing and listening to what’s present in ourselves and others. In the current times with endless challenges, circles are pillars for community and village building, as circles value equanimity, difference and growth of understanding. With Nature Connection as a core value, circles “optimize” and bring out “the best” in people.  Sassafras makes a conscious choice to create a space where we can address issues that are up front, big deals to you; it is in these areas that we find opportunity for personal growth. What happens in fire circles is magical, over the years we see people leave feeling connected, recharged, and with an increased sense of meaning. We meet outside around a consciously set up, and well tended fire. During inclement weather we retreat into our heated yurt. Sharing is confidential and we value authentic expression and deep listening. This will be the first in an ongoing series of monthly gatherings, and we’d love to ask for your support in making this a succes. Please join us, and invite a friend, partner or co-worker. It’s free and there will be a donation jar present for those wanting to donate to Sassafras. Donations of firewood are always welcome!
